Yesterday someone who wanted to be nasty on a social media platform referred to me as a “supposed sexologist,” which was interesting. I’ve been called a “whack job of a sexologist” by right-wing bloggers trolling me about my paper on objectum sexuality (2009), but never a “supposed” one before. None of the hundreds of hours of coursework and training I’ve done has prepared me to be a “supposed” professional in this field–only an actual one. But it seems to be the current fashion to snark at people’s–especially women’s–credentials and work these days.

That said, I am pleased to announce that I have completed Dr. Marty Klein’s excellent course, Sexual Intelligence, through SexCoachU and thus earned my requisite 20 hours of continuing education to qualify for AASECT re-certification. I appreciate that AASECT gave me disability accommodation so that I could complete my required hours online. (Recertification happens every three years. Here are the initial requirements for certification as a sexuality counselor.)

In addition to the above, I also completed a 90-hour training as a Breastfeeding Specialist through Lactation Education Resources, which was an amazing course. It does not count for AASECT, but it does demonstrate my commitment to upgrading my knowledge and skills whenever possible, in hopes of being useful in my community. Here’s my page on the AASECT website as a certified sexuality counselor.
